Furnace Rework
Clash Royale is back with a new card rework. A few seasons ago, we had a season focused on several card reworks; this time we are getting only one, but deeper than all the previous ones.
The Goblin Hut rework was very related to this one in terms of its goals. Spawner buildings used to create very passive gameplay, just deploy and sit back. Many players found it unappealing to play with and against, and low card popularity was a very clear indicator for this. What changes can move these cards away from this kind of gameplay?
Unlike the Goblin Hut, Furnace isn’t turning into a reactive building, it’s becoming a troop!
Furnace will be the face of the season for August. It will be featured in the loading screen art, get a new card frame design, and a new card info character image.
Troop Basics
Furnace is becoming a ground troop, and although it will feel like a completely new card, it does keep some things in common with the original design. Mainly:
- Still 4 elixir cost
- Still spawns Fire Spirits
- Still a Rare card
But again, this change is framed as a rework; it is not a new card. This is important because all the card progress from the old Furnace is kept for everyone.
Attack Style
The new design for Furnace makes it a ground troop with ranged attack to air and ground targets. This attack has 6 tiles of range, and deals single-target damage (no splash).
The new card description says the following:
Furnace spawns one Fire Spirit at a time while dealing damage with its special cauldron brew.
It also makes great brick-oven pancakes.
Stats
Old vs New
And here’s a quick comparison of old and new stats:
Stat | Old | Rework |
---|---|---|
HP | 847 | 896 |
Lifetime | 28s | - |
Speed | - | Slow (45) |
Spawn Time | 5s | 5s |
DPS | - | 99 |
Total DPS | 41 | 140 |
Aside from the obvious changes from turning into a troop, it’s worth noting that the Fire Spirit spawns will happen at the same frequency as before.
The new HP places Furnace close to a Hunter (885). This means it survives a Fireball (688), even a Fireball+Zap (880), but dies to Lightning (1,057) or Fireball+Log (954).
The "Total DPS" refers to the total damage from basic attacks and Fire Spirits spawned. The combination of splash and single target damage makes it hard to compare with other troops.
Comparison to other cards
Troop | Damage | Hit Time | DPS | Range |
---|---|---|---|---|
Furnace | 179 | 1.8 | 99 | 6 |
Furnace + Spirits | - | - | 140 | - |
Flying Machine | 171 | 1.1 | 155 | 6 |
Dart Goblin | 148 | 0.8 | 185 | 6.5 |
Musketeer | 217 | 1 | 217 | 6 |
These stats show that the total damage is very underwhelming when compared to single-target troops of the same cost.
Troop | Damage | Hit Time | DPS |
---|---|---|---|
Furnace Spirits | 207 | 5 | 41 |
Ice Wizard | 89 | 1.7 | 52 |
Furnace | 179 | 1.8 | 99 |
Baby Dragon | 161 | 1.5 | 107 |
Witch | 135 | 1.1 | 123 |
Furnace + Spirits | - | - | 140 |
Wizard | 281 | 1.4 | 201 |
The area damage doesn’t stand out either.
The new Furnace may find a place as a support card in big pushes, but it seems unlikely to be a good option for defence.
Did you know?
Barbarian Hut and Furnace were the only 2 buildings that weren’t used a single time among the top 1,000 decks of last season. Maybe Barbarian Hut could also get a rework in the near future?
Masteries
The Masteries and progress for Furnace aren’t changing. This means that progress in these tasks will be kept as well:
- Spawner: spawn X Fire Spirits
- Damage Dealer: deal X damage with Fire Spirits
The 3rd set of tasks will remain unreleased.
