The first balance changes for Merge Tactics!

The first round of MT balance

Merge Tactics is completely separate from the usual Clash Royale balance, and this also means it needs dedicated changes to keep the mode fresh and balanced.

Although the future of this mode is still uncertain, the development team behind has the first batch of balance changes for it. This blog will be a quick summary of all the changes they have chosen, which involve troops, traits and modifiers.

Troop Balance

Stats with level scaling are displayed as level 11. This is the usual tournament standard level, even if that's not a very relevant metric for this mode. Level 15 stats should be around 8% higher than these values (1.02^4).

Archer Queen

Archer Queen provides stable damage to multiple targets without too much threat. So we are keeping her core identiy while asking players to take more risks using her so that opponents have more counter-play possibilities.

  • [Nerf] Range: 5 ➜ 4 tiles (-20%)

  • [Nerf] Invisibility Duration: 3 ➜ 2.5 seconds (-17%)

Pekka

Pekka provides both frontline tanking and the best single target burst damage with only 3 cost. We are removing a little damage from her so that other DPS can have more chance to be used

  • [Nerf] Damage: 385 ➜ 360 HP (-6%)

Knight

Knight is the best and cheapest tank and he does not need much damage, so we reduced his attack speed slightly

  • [Nerf] Hit Speed: 70 ➜ 60 hits / 100s (-14%)

Valkyrie

Valkyrie is relatively balanced, but we want to slow her down while keeping her Damage per second at the same level. This helps create more distinct attack rhythms and flavors across different Troops.

  • [Nerf] Hit Speed: 70 ➜ 60 hits / 100s (-14%)

  • [Buff] Damage: 116 ➜ 127 HP (+9%)

Skeleton King

Skeleton King is meant to embody the ultimate fantasy of power, but his Damage falls short compared to P.E.K.K.A. So we’re increasing his Damage to better match the expectations.

  • [Nerf] Hit Speed: 60 ➜ 50 hits / 100s (-17%)

  • [Buff] Damage: 140 ➜ 180 HP (+29%)

Goblins

We want Goblin to be the fastest single-target Damage dealer, and reducing his Hitpoints slightly lets us highlight his Damage more.

  • [Buff] Hit Speed: 140 ➜ 150 hits / 100s (+7%)

  • [Buff] Damage: 96 ➜ 108 HP (+13%)

  • [Rework] Hit Points: 540 ➜ 504 HP (-7%)

Spear Goblins

Spear Goblin is too weak at the moment, so we are buffing his Damage.

  • [Buff] Damage: 132 ➜ 156 HP (+18%)

Bomber

Bomber performs well, but skilled players spread out their Troops to limit his impact. We're slightly increasing his Damage to help him be more valuable.

  • [Buff] Damage: 96 ➜ 108 HP (+13%)

Mega Knight

Mega Knight is a solid tank, but as a 4-cost Troop, he can’t do much on his own once his allies are defeated. We’re improving his offense to make a bit so that investing in him feels more reliable.

  • [Buff] Damage: 73 ➜ 103 HP (+41%)

Trait Balance

Brawler

Brawlers just aren’t tanky enough at the moment, so we’re giving them a Hitpoint increase.

  • [Buff] Bonus HP 1: 30% ➜ 40% (+33%)

  • [Buff] Bonus HP 2: 60% ➜ 80% (+33%)

Undead

Undead Troops don’t start with strong burst Damage, and it takes a while to knock out cursed enemies and gain their bonus, so we’re making that bonus more rewarding.

  • [Buff] Bonus Damage 1: 20% ➜ 30% (+50%)

Juggernaunt

Juggernauts are too complicated, so we’re simplifying things on the numbers side. We also updated the description to make it clearer to players that the ally shield and self-shield can stack.

  • [Buff] Ally Shield 1: 15% ➜ 20% (+33%)

  • [Nerf] Self Shield 1: 30% ➜ 20% (-33%)

  • [Buff] Ally Shield 2: 30% ➜ 40% (+33%)

  • [Nerf] Self Shield 2: 60% ➜ 40% (-33%)

Modifier Balance

Ouch!

This Modifier is a bit too harsh on ranged Troops, so we’re adjusting it to make it less punishing.

  • Damage Reflection: 50% ➜ 40% (-20%)

Mod description:

Combat Start: Frontline Troops will reflect 40% of Damage taken

Less is more

Less is More isn’t rewarding enough Modifier to make players change their strategy, so we’re making it more impactful.

  • Bonus Hit Speed: 20% ➜ 25% (+25%)

Mod description:

If you have fewer Troops, your team will gain +25% HP and Hit Speed
