update client updatePrincesses have been defending their towers for years... it’s time for a performance review!
On December 13th, Princess Towers will become Crown Towers, and you’ll soon be able to decide which Tower Troop stands on top to protect your king. Tower Princess will be one of these Tower Troops, so you can keep her in your deck if you want to. If you don’t, you’ll have to wait...
The first new Tower Troop is coming to Clash Royale at the start of next year, on January 1st. That will be the first available replacement for Tower Princess.
This is a hint from the Tower Troops tab:
An explosive personality is making their Arena debut very soon... watch this space!
And this face was briefly shown during last Sunday’s teaser:
Who could it be?

New Collection UI
Tower Troops won’t occupy any of the 8 main card slots of your deck, so how do you change them? In the redesigned Collection tab.
The new Collection tab user interface is one of the main changes that you’ll notice with this update. For reference, this is what the current Collection looks like right now:
Decks: deck slots and card collection
Cosmetics: emotes and tower skins
Magic Items
Battle Banners: banners and badges
After the update, you’ll find 2 main tabs:
Decks: where you select one of your deck slots
Collection: with 6 subsections
- Collection: tower troops and cards
- Emotes
- Magic Items
- Tower Skins
- Banners: decorations and frames
- Badges
So we now have 3 different tabs labelled as collection at different levels, but it shouldn’t be too confusing given how similar it is to the previous UI.
What may seem a bigger struggle at first is the Decks tab, which now adds an extra step if you want to make any adjustments to any deck. You’ll first have to tap one of the 8 cards, and then tap again on Edit Deck.
More common interactions like switching deck slots or pasting decks will be as quick and easy as before.
The Duels Deck Set section has not changed, and we presume that the same will happen with the Clan Wars 2 decks section. This means that Tower Troops will not be enabled in these game modes.
Tower Troop Selection
Given that we only have Tower Princess available, there’s not much that we can show for now.
At the bottom, you can read the hint that we mentioned earlier.
Tower Troop Upgrades
The behaviour of Tower Troops is very similar to the rest of the cards. They have rarities and can be upgraded by spending cards and gold. A few things to keep in mind:
- Tower Troop cards can be found in a new kind of chest, the Tower Troop Chests
- Wild Cards and Magic Books can’t be used to level up Tower Troops
- Magic Coins can be used to cover the gold upgrade cost
- Tower Troop levels are capped by your King Tower level
- Upgrading Tower Troops to Level 15 costs 50K Elite Wild Cards
When the update drops, your Tower Princess troop will be converted to your current King Tower level. Whenever you reach one of the King Levels in which your King Tower levels up (E.g.: 42 and 54), your King’s Journey chest will now include bonus rewards, just enough to cover your Tower Princess upgrades (in cards, gold and EWCs). This system ensures that no one is left behind, although it’s possible that some players can double-dip by reaching the new level before the upgrade and opening the King’s Journey chest afterwards.
The upgrade costs are the same as normal cards. For Tower Princess, which has common rarity, upgrade costs are:
Level | Card Cost | Gold Cost | EWC Cost |
---|---|---|---|
2 | 2 | 5 | 0 |
3 | 4 | 20 | 0 |
4 | 10 | 50 | 0 |
5 | 20 | 150 | 0 |
6 | 50 | 400 | 0 |
7 | 100 | 1,000 | 0 |
8 | 200 | 2,000 | 0 |
9 | 400 | 4,000 | 0 |
10 | 800 | 8,000 | 0 |
11 | 1,000 | 15,000 | 0 |
12 | 1,500 | 35,000 | 0 |
13 | 3,000 | 75,000 | 0 |
14 | 5,000 | 100,000 | 0 |
15 | 0 | 0 | 50,000 |
Shop UI Update
Say goodbye to the old goblin of the shop. We don’t know if he’s retiring, or if he’s being fired due to endless customer complaints over his pricing strategies.
What we do know is that the shop will now have a more colourful theme, with distinct sections for the different categories of items you can buy.
