A Small Update
The 2024 Q4 update is scheduled to be released next Monday, December 16th. As always with client updates, this isn’t a fixed schedule, and delays happen quite often due to the many steps involved in app store releases.
This upcoming update is arguably the smallest one we have received in the last 2 years. Since the quarterly updates were introduced in 2021, the development team commited to providing impactful updates every few months instead of focusing on monthly seasons.
We don’t have a clear explanation for why this update is going to be smaller, but we do know that their team has grown a lot recently. They might need some time to adjust before these added resources start showing for players.
Besides this, it’s worth keeping in mind that seasonal content and other changes have been happening more regularly, so it might be time to part ways with the quarterly schedule. Some examples of this are:
We now get two evolutions per season and new cards quite often
Temporary modes like Goblin Journey and 2v2 League
In any case, the quarterly update is almost here, so let’s look into the changes and fixes it brings.
Lucky Loop Rework
The original design of Lucky Loop was to give players bonus content once they had completed the main tiers of Pass Royale. By collecting more crowns, you could earn extra Lucky Drops.
Crown requirements started with modest amounts, and would later increase exponentially as you unlocked more. The goal was probably to put a cap on this resource in order to not make it unlimited. Unlimited resources are usually avoided to keep game economies under control.
Unfortunately, this way to limit the resource was not received well by all players. Some saw it as a challenge to complete instead of the unclimbable wall it was meant to be; and this translated into a frustrating experience.
To address this, Lucky Loop is being reworked. Every day, you’ll be able to unlock an extra Lucky Drop if you have completed the main tiers. And don’t worry, there is no need to rush to the last tier, Lucky Loop will stack while you complete it.
If you complete all the main tiers by day 20, Lucky Loop will have accumulated over that time, and you’ll have 20 Lucky Drops ready to be grinded. After that, you’ll still be able to unlock another one every day until the season ends.
In the old system, players could grind hundreds of crowns to earn 43 Lucky Drops. This amount will be reduced to 28 or 35, depending on the length of each month. Overall, the rework will be a slight nerf for extremely active players. But for most players, Supercell thinks this will provide a better experience.
We don’t have details of the new crown requirements with this new Lucky Loop format, so we’ll have to wait until January to find out. The current system will remain in place until the end of this December season.
More Lucky Drop Cosmetics
Lucky Drops were updated to include cosmetics such as emotes and banners with the last update. The pool of cosmetics available was very limited as an initial test.
After the update, you’ll be able to pull many more banners and emotes of other characters such as Princess, Giant, Hog, Royal Hog and Hog Rider.
Baby Goblins Removed
Although this Tower Troop became unavailable when the Goblin Journey was removed, accounts still had it in their card collection.
This was causing some issues with Magic Items, as you couldn’t convert Common Books and Wild Cards to EWCs until all your cards were levelled up, but Baby Goblins were causing collections to seem incomplete.
After this removal, players should be able to spend their Magic Items again.
Deck Preview Redesign
Deck previews are changing slightly, and will now have a silver frame.
This replaces the old golden frame, and will be visible in several parts of the UI, such as the Duels tab, Clan Wars, challenges... any feature that had a deck preview.
Events Deck Switcher
Seeing which deck you have selected in the Events tab will be easier with the new deck previews.
Additionally, you’ll be able to switch to another deck directly from the Events tab. So no more need to go back to the Trophy Road tab in order to make changes.
20 Win Challenge
The 20 Win Challenge is the most beloved event for many players. During several days, players try their best to earn the exclusive badges that will forever shine in their profiles as proof of their achievement.
This year, the event was scheduled to start on December 13th, but technical issues caused it to be postponed until after the update.
The new schedule for the 20 Win Challenge is to start on December 19th (09:00 UTC) and finish on December 26th (09:00 UTC). This means that this year, the challenge will last 7 days; more than usual, probably to compensate for the unfortunate timing around Christmas Day.
