Musketeer Evolution
In recent months, there have been 2 clear content release patterns:
- 2 evolutions
- 1 evolution and 1 new card
Musketeer will be the main evolution of the season, which is the one you can unlock with Pass Royale. Will there be another evo? A new card? We’ll share those details very soon!
The Musketeer evolution card description says the following:
She can hit a Royal Hog from thirty tiles away!
Evolved Musketeer snipes targets across the Arena in a straight line ahead of her. She has limited Sniper Ammo with increased damage. She cannot snipe Crown Towers.
Evolution Stats
As with recent evolutions, Supercell avoids giving basic stat buffs. The main stats of the normal Musketeer are the same as the evolution.
Evolution Ability: Long Shot!
Evolved Musketeer enters the arena with 3 rounds of Sniper Ammo bullets. Each of these bullets deals 50% more damage than a normal Musketeer shot; in the next section we look at the total damage of this ability, to see what troops she can neutralise.
Musketeer also shoots these snipes a bit slower than normal attacks, so the overall DPS doesn’t change, but this isn’t very relevant given the limited ammo.
What really makes this ability special is the "infinite" range.
Evolved Musketeer has a range of 30 tiles, and the Clash Royale arena has a height of 32 tiles. If we take into account the size of hit boxes, this means Musketeer effectively has an infinite range.
But, there are 2 catches:
- Evo Musketeer can only target buildings and troops with Long Shot, not Crown Towers.
- The range is not circular as for most troops, it’s a very narrow area that’s directly in front of Evo Musketeer. So basically, she can target far away troops as long as these are directly in front of her.
When targets are within her normal range of 6 tiles, she’ll shoot normally. She’ll start sniping only when this normal range is clear and there are targets in the long range. When you deploy Evo Musketeer, there is a pink highlight to help you see the Long Shot range:
It’s also worth noting that there is some tolerance for her targeting; she doesn’t simply shoot vertically all the time. For example:
Evo Musketeer will still target troops even if they are 1-2 tiles sideways.
Damage Stats
The total damage of these 3 shots is enough to kill many glass-cannons that are usually hard to reach. And the Crown Tower damage limitation becomes useful if you want to avoid King Tower activations.
Troop or Attack | HP |
---|---|
Firecracker | 304 |
1 Long Shot | 326 |
Magic Archer | 531 |
Flying Machine | 614 |
2 Long Shots | 652 |
Ice Wizard | 688 |
Little Prince | 698 |
Wizard | 754 |
Electro Dragon | 950 |
3 Long Shots | 978 |
Archer Queen | 1000 |
We also expect her to be useful in beatdown decks, where she can target buildings that sit in the middle of the arena. These are the popular placements to pull troops into the centre of the arena, but also leave a clear line of sight for these snipes. Compared to other long-range troops like Magic Archer, Evolved Musketeer Long Shots can be better due to the higher damage and the limited horizontal range, which strongly limits where opponents can place troop distractions.
We can also look at spells for a useful damage comparison, as spells are used often to target defensive troops in a similar way.
Spell or Attack | HP |
---|---|
The Log | 290 |
1 Long Shot | 326 |
Arrows | 366 |
2 Long Shots | 652 |
Fireball | 689 |
Poison | 728 |
Fireball + Zap | 881 |
3 Long Shots | 978 |
Lightning | 1056 |
Evolution Cycles
Musketeer needs 2 Cycles to activate the evolution, so 1 in every 3 deploys will be evolved.
Evolution Release
The Musketeer Evolution will be released on November 4th, with the start of the new season.
Usually, card evolutions are released slightly before the end of the season, which is the first Monday of the month. As soon as this happens, you can unlock it with Wild Shards. After the new season begins, players who buy the Diamond Pass Royale get 6 Musketeer shards to unlock it.
