Pass Royale 2.0
Pass Royale was introduced a very long time ago. Did you know we are about to finish Season 45? That’s almost 4 years!
So a Pass Royale revamp was long overdue. From now on, there will be 3 tiers of Pass Royale; one for free and 2 premium options:
- Free: $0 USD
- Gold: $5.99 USD
- Diamond: $11.99 USD
Note: these are standard prices that might change for each region based on currency and taxes. For reference, the old premium tier of Pass Royale was priced at $4.99 USD.
You can think of the Diamond tier as a Gold tier with added benefits, meaning that Diamond includes everything that Gold has and some extra rewards. If you buy the Gold tier first and later decide to upgrade, you can do so for $6.99 USD. This means that if you plan to buy the Diamond tier, it’s slightly cheaper to do so in one go.
New vs Old Pass Royale
The Pass Royale progression system is changing a lot overall. In this table we compare the contents of the new tiers with the old ones:
Other than gold and card value, it can be useful to look at the rarest rewards to spot the key differences.
Magic Books
These magic items are being removed from Pass Royale. In the past, there was always a random book for the free tier and a Book of Books for the premium one. If you don’t have one already, you might want to buy the last legacy Pass Royale and save it for the Level 15 update. You have until April 3rd to decide.
Animated Banners
This new kind of banners looks great and will surely impress your opponents. With the Diamond tier you get a matching Decoration and Frame, both are animated. The animated banner that’s available next season features an archer with a very colorful background.
Season Tokens
There are more details of this new currency below. You can get up to 15K tokens from Pass Royale each season, and you can later exchange them for your favorite items in the Season Shop.
Crowns and Tiers
In the old system, each tier requires 5-10 crowns, for a total of 35 tiers. Crowns could only be earned by destroying opponent towers.
In the new system, each tier requires 5 crowns. There are 120 tiers total. You’ll now get crowns for each tower left standing in addition to towers destroyed.
For example, if you finish a battle in 2-1, then you’ll get 2 from towers destroyed + 2 left standing = 4 crowns total. Your opponent will earn 2 crowns (1 towers destroyed + 1 left standing).
Say goodbye to Party Mode
First it was exiled to the hamburger menu, where only the wisest players could find it. But now it’s going away for good. Party Mode is being reworked and moved to the new Events tab.
This means that, from now on, you’ll only have two options to unlock chests from your cycle and earn victory gold: playing Trophy Road or Path of Legends.
Events 2.0
The events tab is getting a new coat of paint and will provide players a more rewarding way to play. From friendly 2v2 battles to the most competitive challenges, this tab will host a variety of events that you can play to earn Season Tokens. These events are divided into 3 main categories:
1. Seasonal Events
You can play casual battles in special game modes, 1v1 and 2v2 for as long as you want. Everything at tournament standard card levels, so you can enjoy a leveled playing field at all times.
2. Challenges
This category includes all the temporary challenges and events. Global Tournaments, 20 Win Challenges, Chained Challenges and many others.
3. Classic Challenges
These are permanent challenges that are available at all times, and you can join by paying gems as entry fee. Classic and Grand Challenges should sound familiar already, but Mega Draft is being added to the lineup of options.
It’s also worth noting that the price of Grand Challenges will be reduced to 50 gems (from 100), and rewards will also be cut in half. Mega Draft is joining as the heavy-weight option at 100 gems per attempt, and its rewards will be the same as in the old GCs.
For now the new Mega Draft Challenge won’t have a dedicated badge like CCs and GCs, but it could be added in the future.
Season Shop
After earning thousands of tokens in the new Events tab, you’ll be wondering: what are they for? Season Tokens can be exchanged for specific rewards in the Season Shop. Some items you can buy in this shop are:
- Gold
- Cards
- Wild Cards
- Banner Tokens
- Magic Books (one available per season)
- Cosmetics (emotes, battle banners...)
In contrast to the old challenges, you won’t be receiving random chests and rewards anymore. By playing events you’ll simply earn Season Tokens, which you can later exchange for whatever items you like the most.
Season Tokens
You can earn these tokens with Pass Royale and in the Events tab. As we covered earlier, the amount of tokens you can earn from the pass is:
- Free: 2500 tokens
- Free + Gold: 7500 tokens
- Free + Gold + Diamond: 15000 tokens
Whenever you battle in the Events tab, you also earn Season Tokens based on your performance. Winning helps you earn more, but it’s not all that matters. There are 4 factors that decide the amount of tokens you earn in a battle:
- Towers destroyed: 100 Tokens for each of the opponent’s towers you are able to take down
- Towers defended: 50 Tokens for each of your towers that remains standing by the end of the battle
- Elixir spent: 1 Token per elixir spent, in normal battles around 100 elixir is usually spent
- Victory multiplier: x1.5 more tokens if you win the battle
On average, you can expect to earn around 400 Season Tokens per battle.
Daily cap and boost
Every day you can earn up to 1,000 Season Tokens by default, but if you think that’s not enough, you can extend this daily cap. To do so, you have to buy the Season Boost with gems. Despite it’s name, the Season Boost lasts less than a day; until your daily shop is refreshed. Before buying it, you’ll see a countdown letting you know for how long it will extend your daily cap.
Additionally, the first bonus you buy each day gives you a x2 multiplier on tokens earned the rest of the day.
It’s important to note that despite its name, Season Boosts last for a day only until the season shop refreshes. Reset happens everyday at midnight in your local time, or the local time where you have first installed the game.
Since the boosts cost incrementally after each boost, you’ll get a better token-to-gem ratio if you buy them on different days instead of buying them on the same day.
Token Cap | Price | Multiplier | |
---|---|---|---|
Default | 1000 | 0 | |
Boost #1 | 2000 | 100 | x2 |
Boost #2 | 3000 | 150 | |
Boost #3 | 4000 | 200 | |
Boost #4 | 5000 | 250 | |
Boost #5 | 6000 | 300 | |
Boost #6 | 7000 | 350 | |
Boost #7 | 8000 | 400 | |
Total | 8000 | 1750 | x2 |
Season Tokens are seasonal
When a season ends, all your remaining tokens will be automatically converted into gold. The final exchange conversion is 10 tokens to 1 gold, which is much worse than buying shop items, so buy something nice before it’s too late.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed: Golem sight range issue that affected how it was pulled by some buildings
- Increased reflection radius for Fireball and Giant Snowball
- Added missing Years Played Badges
- Other bug fixes and improvements
Party Rocket Challenge
The Party Rocket Challenge will start shortly after the game updates. It’s technically part of the Season 45 content.
The Party Rocket is a 5-elixir card that has a slightly smaller radius than the regular Rocket. Upon impact, everything that it kills turns into Goblins.
FAQ
Where is the Book of Books?
The trusty Book of Books — long a staple for the paid track of Pass Royale — will be removed from the pass. Players have long depend on this book every month to max their Champions. It might be a lot harder when the new game update arrives.
Supercell decides to do this so that there will be more incentives to purchase magic books elsewhere, e.g. the Season Shop and the Shop.
For Book of Cards tied to a rarity, we’re promised that you’ll still see at least one of those available from the Season Shop every season.
Can you get chests and victory gold from the casual game modes in the new Events tab?
No. Battling in Event 2.0 will only give Season Tokens. To get the chest cycle in your slots, you’ll need to battle either on the Trophy Road or Path of Legends.
Can you get crowns from the Events tab?
Battling in Events 2.0 will not give crowns, so if you wish to work through the season pass, you’ll have to get crowns from the Trophy Road or Path of Legends.
Supercell designed it this way so that the core battle modes will be more rewarding than the event battles — and not the other way around. They also don’t want Events 2.0 to become the more “optimal” way to progress though Pass Royale than the core game modes.
Will I lose my current pass when the game comes out?
No. The new season pass and the three new tiers will start with the new season on April 3, 2023.
Where is the sneak peek of the new season?
We’ll be posting previews of the April season towards the end of March.
If I haven’t unlocked Archer Queen yet, what would happen when I complete the the pass?
You’ll unlock Archer Queen — even if you haven’t reached the Arena required to unlock her. That’s pretty big!
Why give us a specific Champion card instead of a Champion Wild Card?
If you haven’t unlocked any Champions yet, having a full stack of Champion Wild Cards won’t do anything. Giving a specific card solves the issue by ensuring that you’ll always get a Champion card that you’ll be able to use immediately.
How often does the Season Shop refresh?
Unlike the regular shop, which refreshes daily, the Season Shop refreshes every season.
