client update balance updateA highly anticipated brand new game update is coming. At the beginning of this year, we’ve received the Magic Items update which drastically improved progression for every player. This Summer, Supercell introduced the Gold Crate update that has significantly improved the Gold Economy in the game. The Clash Royale team is now hard at work on the Q3 Autumn update that will focus on end-game content for high-level players.
It will introduce a change of gameplay in ways that they’ve never done before, and is designed to reward long-time players who have stuck around with the game for so long.
However, these exciting features take time to develop and it‘s not ready to be unveiled yet. In the meantime, Supercell has decided to release Balance Changes for Season 27 ahead of the game update, as well as some other nice events for September.
Prepare for a whole new meta because Season 27 comes with a whopping 16 changes — the most balance changes we have ever seen in the game!
- Season 27 starts on Monday, September 6, 2021.
- Balance changes will happen shortly after the season reset in a TBD scheduled maintenance.

Night Witch (Rework)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Death Spawn | 4 | 0 |
First Bat Spawn | 4 sec | 1 sec |
Bat Spawn Interval | 7 sec | 5 sec |
- Night Witch is a popular card that‘s most often seen in Golem decks.
- Surveying the 20 most popular decks with Night Witch in August, we’ve found 19 Golem decks and only 1 Giant deck.
- This rework removes the most frustrating part of the card, which is the Bats Death Spawn. With this rework, Bats won’t spawn when Night Witch dies anymore.
- To compensate for this change, Night Witch will receive a quicker First Bat Spawn (from 4 sec to 1 sec), and she will spawn bats more often (from every 7 sec to every 5 sec).
Goblins (Rework)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Spawn Distance | Further Apart |
- Goblins will be reworked and spawn further apart from each other when deployed.
- This allows them surround other troops, in a way similar to Skeletons and Barbarians.
- It is intended to be a Buff, but we’ve categorized this as a Rework because it is a change of card mechanic.

Bomb Tower (Buff)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Lifetime +5 sec | 25 sec | 30 sec |
- Bomb Tower usage was hit hard by its last balance change in 2021 Q1, when its death damage received a 50% nerf.
- It will receive a lifetime buff of 5 seconds.
- Alongside Tesla’s lifetime nerf, all the buildings that “shoot stuff” will have a standardized 30-second lifetime.
Guards (Buff)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Damage +12% | 90 | 101 |
- Guards is one of the least used cards in the game. In Fact, in many of our own stats collection for the card, it routinely ranked last in usage for most competitive game modes.
- A while back, Guards had a rework where their hit points were changed to be the same as all other Skeletons in the game.
- In keeping consistency as a priority, Supercell wanted to keep their shield Hit points to be the same as other shields in the game.
- So to give them a buff, Guards will be receiving a decent Damage increase.
- After this buff, each Guard will deal approximately the same amount of damage as Dart Goblin (100 at tournament level).
Tombstone (Buff)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Skeleton Death Spawn +1 | 3 | 4 |
- Tombstone has always been one of the least used buildings in the game.
- After this balance, it will gain an additional Skeleton when it is destroyed.

Poison (Buff)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Enemy Movement Speed 15% Slower | 0 | 15% |
- Everyone knows that Fireball has been the quintessential Spell in the game for the past few seasons.
- The Fireball bait decks are so popular that you could win/lose games depending on whether you carry Fireball to battle or not!
- Poison will be getting a significant buff and will slow down enemy movement speed by 15% after the balance change.
- Players who had experienced the Goison era know just how powerful this slowing effect is.
- Unlike the original Poison, only the movement speed will be affected. This differ from the Goison-era Poison where the spell also affects the attack speed of the enemy troops.
- We’ll have to wait and see if this change will create an oppressive meta, but one thing is for sure — the meta will definitely be different when the balance is live!
Hunter (Buff)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
First Attack 0.2 sec faster | 1.1 sec | 0.9 sec |
- Hunter had previously received a significant First Attack nerf (0.4 sec slower) in 2021 Q1, which has significantly lowered his usage.
- His First Attack will become 0.2 second faster, allowing him to start attacking in less than a second.
Giant Snowball (Buff)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Pushback | 1.5 | 1.8 |
- Giant Snowball is one of those small spells that takes some skills to use. After several major nerfs, it is now one of the least used cards in the game.
- It will gain a larger pushback after balances.
- With this change, you’ll be able to completely counter a solo Goblin Barrel if you time your Snowball perfectly.
Royal Hogs (Buff)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Damage +6% | 59 | 63 |
- Royal Hogs hasn’t seen a lot of usage in recent seasons, largely because of how prevalent Fireball is.
- The dominance of Goblin Drill in the meta necessitates the rise of Dark Prince, Valkyrie and Bomber in meta decks, which are all direct hardcounters to Royal Hogs.
- Together with the Goblin Drill nerf, Supercell hopes that Royal Hogs will become popular again with this fairly significant damage buff.

Tesla (Nerf)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Lifetime -5 sec | 35 sec | 30 sec |
- Tesla is a secretly OP building in the game because of how defensive it is.
- After many defensive buildings fell out of the meta (e.g. Bomb Tower, Inferno Tower), it has started to gain an alarming trend in usage.
- It will be getting a lifetime nerf from 35 seconds to 30 seconds, which will also help to standardize all shooting buildings to have a 30 second lifetime.
- X-Bow players might be slightly upset about this nerf, but we know that Viiper will be very happy to see this.
Mother Witch (Nerf)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Hit Points -4% | 560 | 540 |
- Mother Witch is partially responsible for the Fireball meta.
- She is powerful and often unreachable on the enemy side of the battlefield.
- With this reduction in Hitpoints, you can take her out with more spell combinations, such as Arrows and The Log.
- That said, having Arrows + Log in the same deck is unusual, so only time will tell if the HP nerf is enough.
Electro Giant (Nerf)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Hit Points -4% | 3591 | 3458 |
- It‘s often hard to stop your opponent’s Electro Giant from reaching your tower unless you play a building card in your deck.
- He will be getting a Hitpoint nerf, so that more cards can deal damages and prevent him from getting onto the tower.
- Supercell wants to keep him as a viable win-condition, so they are cautious about how much to change about him.

Bomber (Nerf)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Attack Range | 5 | 4.5 |
- The rise of Goblin Drill necessitates having Bomber in most of the decks you play.
- For 2 elixir, he simply brings too much value and versatility for his cost.
- He will be getting his Attack Range nerfed from 5 tiles to 4.5 tiles.
Fire Spirit (Nerf)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Damage Radius | 2.5 | 2.3 |
- Fire Spirit has single-handedly pushed Log Bait decks out of the meta because of how effective it is since the Fire Spirit’s rework in 2021 Q2
- A 1-elixir card that can fully counter a 3-elixir card gives too much value — and the Clash Royale team agrees.
- With this damage radius nerf (from 2.5 to 2.3 tiles), Fire Spirit will no longer take out all 3 Goblins of the Goblin Barrel if it is deployed on top of the tower.
Royal Giant (Nerf)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
First Attack 0.2 sec Slower | 0.7 sec | 0.9 sec |
- Sometimes it is hard to prevent Royal Giant from hitting your tower even with perfect defense.
- Royal Giant’s first attack will become 0.2 second slower after balances, giving the defender more time to react with his deploy.

Goblin Drill (Nerf)
Before | After | |
---|---|---|
Death Spawn -1 Goblin | 3 | 2 |
- Since its introduction, Goblin Drill has been dominant in the meta.
- It became the #1 win-condition in CRL (Round 7) when players were finally allowed to play the card.
- It has received a couple of emergency nerfs, but that didn’t prevent it from being the number one card in the game.
- A glance at decks used in Top 200 Ladder of Season 2021-07 demonstrates just how powerful this card is — it was used in 56 out of 200 decks!
- It will be getting 1 less Goblin Spawn when destroyed.
- Supercell hopes that this change is enough to balance the Drill, while keeping it viable as a strong win-condition if unanswered.
