A new upgrade system for the last level
To reach the last level of any card, you’ll need Elite Wild Cards instead of cards and gold. This new currency is stored as a Magic Item, and can be used to upgrade all cards regardless of their rarity.
Elite Cards are earned whenever your card collection overflows. For example, if your Phoenix is Level 14 and you get another one from a chest, it used to be converted into gold, but after the update it will be converted into Elite Cards instead.
So in summary, card upgrades will be based on:
- Levels 2-14: Cards and Gold (doesn’t change)
- Level 15: Elite Wild Cards
Level caps: where will Level 15 be useful?
After the update is released, Level 15 will only be available in Trophy Road and Clan Wars.
Path of Legends will remain capped at Level 14 for around 6 months, but after that the cap will be lifted and Level 15 will be available there as well (so around the end of this year or early 2024).
Gold redistribution
The change with card overflow will have a significant effect for progression: once you start maxing your collection, your gold earnings will no longer increase due to card conversion into gold.
How meaningful is this? In the "Where is the Gold?" blog that we published a few months ago, we looked into this in detail. The short answer is that the value that’s earned as cards is between 1x and 2x the amount of raw gold you earn, depending on the kind of player you are.
This could throttle progression, so gold availability will triple after the update! To be clear, Supercell will inject three times more Gold in the game, so as to balance the gold economy.
What to do with this much gold?
Without having to spend gold in Level 15 upgrades, you might be wondering how relevant this gold boost is if your collection is already maxed.
It’s likely that you’ll be able to convert some of your gold into Elite Cards. How would you do this? By buying cards from the shop. Maxed players have done this for years to obtain additional Star Points when they’ve reached the 5M gold cap — every day you can buy cards from the shop for gold.
If you do this for cards that Level 14 in your collection you’ll trigger the card overflow, converting gold into other resources. Something similar can be achieved with donations and card trades, although on a much smaller scale.
To elaborate on this further, for a maxed player, since getting extra cards for a maxed card will give you Elite Wild Cards automatically, you can buy maxed cards from the shop to accrue additional Elite Wild Cards. Since the Level 15 upgrades won’t cost Gold, your 5M gold will not give you an extra boost except if you spend them to indirectly buy Elite Wild Cards through the card overflow mechanism.
Slash Royale is back!
From June 5th to June 18th, all card upgrades will cost 50% less gold!
It’s still unclear how scarce gold will be in the new economy, but this is a great opportunity for anyone looking to upgrade their card collection.
The main caveat to keep in mind is that while gold is not required from Level 14 to 15, you’ll still need to spend Gold to upgrade cards to Level 14. So gold could help you upgrade some cards to Level 15 faster, so don’t spend all your savings right away.
If your priority is to have a few decks maxed again as soon as possible, being able to buy shop offers daily could become a significant boost.
On the other hand, if you mainly care about the long term progression and maxing your entire card collection, you shouldn’t hold back at all.

FAQ
How does Elite Wild Cards differ from other levels?
In order to upgrade a specific card, you usually have to collect cards for that specific card types. With the introduction of Elite Wild Cards, any of your extra cards over Level 14 can be used to upgrade other Level 14 cards. This should make it easier for you to upgrade the cards that. you actually care about.
For example, if you have a Level 14 Knight, and you just received more Knight cards from a chest, they will be converted into Elite Wild Cards, which you can then use to upgrade any card in the game, e.g. Archers if you want to.
What is the conversion rate to Elite Wild Cards for different rarities?
Conversion rate for different rarities will be different. Details will be announced in the future.
How does card evolution tie into all of this?
One of the most anticipated new game feature for the 2023 Q3 update will be the new game play feature called Card Evolution. This feature is independent of Card Level 15.
We can’t disclose details about card evolution at this time, but we’ll leave you a peace of mind here to know that these aren’t features associated with the Level 15.
