Void Spell
New cards are very rare nowadays in Clash Royale, but new spells are even rarer. The last one we saw was Royal Delivery, which was released in April 2020... 4 years ago!
Next season that will be changing with the release of the Void spell, a quite unique and versatile new card. This spell is a 3 elixir Epic card that is unlocked in Arena 15 (Miner’s Mine, 5,000 trophies).
What does it do? The card description explains the following:
You shall not pass! Unless there are a lot of you...
Creates a field of dark magic, damaging all enemy troops and buildings within. More damage is dealt when fewer targets are in its area.
Reduced damage to Crown Towers.
Card Release
The Void spell will be released as soon as Season 59 starts, and you’ll be able to unlock it for free.
We don’t have the full details of this release, but we presume there will be a home screen button and event like the ones we’ve seen for recent card releases. What we do know is that you can get a few extra cards by completing some basic tasks:
- Get 10 crowns: 2 extra cards
- Get 125 crowns: 4 extra cards
Card Mechanic
If we had to compare it with other cards, Void’s mechanic seems like a mix between Lightning and Evolved Zap. A quick overview of what it does:
- 3 waves of beams
- Radius of 2.5 tiles, like Zap
- Damage to air and ground troops
- Single target damage to all troops in its area, acting like area damage
When Void is used, a dark circle appears in the arena. Over the next 5 seconds, 3 waves of beams will strike any troops that step or fly over the Void area.
In each of the 3 waves, the damage dealt is based on the amount of troops that are targeted.
- With 1 troop, the single beam has the maximum strength.
- With 2 to 4 troops, the beams have medium strength.
- With 5 or more troops, the beams are weaker; each troop receives less damage.
Card Stats
This is a more specific break down for each of the kinds of beams. The values displayed in the following tables are for level 11, the tournament standard.
Targets | Damage / Beam | Beam Strength | Tower Damage |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 544 | 100% | 48 |
2 - 4 | 160 | 29% | 24 |
5 + | 48 | 9% | 16 |
After being deployed, the first wave of beams appears 0.4 seconds later. After that, subsequent waves of beams happen every 1.5 seconds. So the third and last wave is at 4.9 seconds.
Unlike with Evolved Zap, the radius of the Void remains at 2.5 tiles throughout these few seconds.
Cards are only damaged by the beams if they are in the Void area when the wave strikes. So if troops move and leave the area, they may not be damaged by all 3 beams. At the same time, if troops step into the Void, they’ll receive damage from the remaining waves.
Damage Comparisons
Void vs other spells
Let’s compare Void damage with other spells:
Spell | Troop Damage | Tower Damage |
---|---|---|
3x Weak Beams | 144 | 48 |
Tornado | 168 | 58 |
Zap | 192 | 58 |
Earthquake | 246 | 162 |
The Log | 290 | 58 |
Arrows | 366 | 111 |
3x Medium Beams | 480 | 72 |
Royal Delivery | 636 | - |
Fireball | 689 | 207 |
Lightning | 1056 | 317 |
Rocket | 1484 | 371 |
3x Strong Beams | 1632 | 144 |
Depending on which kind of beam is used, the resulting damage ranges from worst to best.
Crown Tower damage is very limited even for the strong beam, keeping it at a standard damage/elixir ratio.
Weak beams vs troops
Card | HP / Damage |
---|---|
Skeletons | 81 |
Bats | 81 |
2x Weak Beams | 96 |
Spear Goblins | 133 |
3x Weak Beams | 144 |
1x Medium Beam | 160 |
Goblins | 202 |
Minions | 230 |
Spirits | 230-231 |
Void should be decent to deal with small swarms, although it covers a small area and will need 2 waves of beams to destroy Skeletons and Bats. Bigger swarms like Goblins and Minions will survive 3 waves of beams, so in total it’s an effect similar to Giant Snowball or Zap.
Medium beams vs troops
Card | HP / Damage |
---|---|
Goblins | 202 |
Spirits | 230-231 |
Minions | 230 |
Dart Goblin | 260 |
Princess | 261 |
Archers | 304 |
Firecracker | 304 |
2x Medium Beams | 320 |
3x Medium Beams | 480 |
Zappies | 530 |
Magic Archer | 532 |
Mother Witch | 532 |
1x Strong Beam | 544 |
For most small troops, 2 or 3 medium beams will be enough to do the job. It deals with troops that would usually be targeted by The Log or Arrows.
Strong beams vs troops
Card | HP / Damage |
---|---|
Zappies | 530 |
Magic Archer | 532 |
Mother Witch | 532 |
1x Strong Beam | 544 |
Flying Machine | 614 |
Barbarians | 670 |
Little Prince | 700 |
Musketeer | 720 |
Hunter | 838 |
2x Strong Beams | 1088 |
Baby Dragon | 1152 |
Executioner | 1280 |
Sparky | 1452 |
3x Strong Beams | 1632 |
Knight | 1943 |
Bowler | 2080 |
The single-target damage that Void can deal is impressive, even better than Rocket, but remember that this is dependent on having only 1 target in the Void area. If the opponent has vulnerable troops, dropping any additional targets in the Void area will drastically reduce this damage, similar to a Lightning block.
Masteries
A new card (that isn’t a Tower Troop) also means new masteries! The 2 mastery task sets available on release will be about dealing damage and destroying troops.
Task Set 1: Damage Dealer
Deal damage to enemy troops or buildings.
Damage | Reward |
---|---|
70,000 | 20 Voids |
200,000 | 6,000 Gold |
335,000 | 150 Gems |
Task Set 2: Troop Destroyer
Destroy enemy troops.
Troops | Reward |
---|---|
385 | 9,000 Gold |
1,100 | 20 Epic Wild Cards |
1,900 | 15,000 Gold |
