Zap Evolution
Zap is the very first spell to evolve in Clash Royale. It will be the second evolution release of the season, after Tesla, but we don’t yet have a fixed date for the release. Like Wall Breakers last season, it will be available in the shop through an in-app purchase (IAP).
What does the evolved Zap do? The card description says the following:
This Evolution comes gently zapping, zapping at your Arena floor...
Get multiple Zaps for the cost of one, with each consecutive Zap hitting a larger area!
Evolution Stats
The initial damage caused by Zap is the same for the normal and evolved versions.
Evolution Ability: Triple Shock!
Usually, after a Zap is deployed, you simply see a blue spark that shocks targets in its range, but quickly goes away afterwards. The Evolved Zap looks quite different.
Not only does it have a purple tint, it also creates a light ring on the outside of the damaged area. This ring then starts to grow and zaps every target that is inside 2 more times.
There are 3 Zaps in total. The first one damages the usual area, with a radius of 2.5 tiles. As the ring grows, it zaps again at the radii of 3 and 3.5 tiles. Each of these zaps happen around 1 second apart.
For reference, the radius of the final zap (3.5 tiles) is the same as Poison. Compared to the initial area, this is almost twice as big!
This ability can completely change how Zap is used during battles. Usually, Zap requires precise timing to reach the right targets at the right time. The evolution is very different, as it creates a time window in which opponents won’t want to place troops. This means that evolution zap could be used preemptively to create a safe area, similar to what Poison does.
There are a lot of interactions that are interesting with 3 Zaps, but here is a quick table that lets you see how shock resistant each troop is:
Card | HP / Damage |
---|---|
Skeletons | 81 |
Bats | 81 |
Evolved Bats | 122 |
Spear Goblins | 133 |
1 Zap | 192 |
Goblins | 202 |
Spirits | 230 |
Minions | 230 |
Dart Goblin | 260 |
Princess | 261 |
Archers | 304 |
Firecracker | 304 |
Arrows | 366 |
Evo Archers | 378 |
2 Zaps | 384 |
Evo Firecracker | 394 |
Zappies | 530 |
Magic Archer | 532 |
Mother Witch | 532 |
3 Zaps | 576 |
Flying Machine | 614 |
Barbarians | 670 |
Fireball | 689 |
With a few exceptions, you can think of 2 Zaps as being close to Arrows, and 3 Zaps close to Fireball.
It’s also interesting to point out that 2 Zaps take down the Guards shield, so the third Zap removes them entirely.
Evolution Cycles
Zap needs 2 Cycles to activate the evolution, so 1 in every 3 deploys will be evolved.
Evolution Release
As we mentioned at the start of the blog, the Zap Evolution will be available through an in-app purchase (IAP) during next season. No other details are confirmed, but we expect something similar to Wall Breakers last season:
- Second week of the season
- Around $10 USD
- Evolution IAP paired with a non-exclusive emote
As usual, once the evolution becomes available, you’ll also be able to use Wild Shards to unlock it.
Other ways to find Zap shards are:
- Level Up chests
- Season Shop (in a future seasons)
- Shop Offers (in a future seasons)
