Background: Gold to EWC conversion in the past
Around 2 months ago, after Elite Levels were released, there was a maintenance break that introduced significant changes to the Elite Wild Card (EWC) conversion values.
This change made:
- Champions and Legendaries give more EWCs
- Commons, Rares and Epics give less EWCs
The Issue: Conversion ratios are still different for each rarity
While this moved towards the value expectations that players have for each rarity, there is still a significant difference. This can be seen daily when looking at "Gold to EWC value conversions". Gold hasn’t changed, so it represents the values that players are used to; EWCs represent the new values that the game is adopting.
These differences allowed players to strategize their progression; choosing carefully which cards they buy to optimise the EWCs earned for Gold spent.
The Solution: Same conversion ratios for all rarities
This mismatch is now going to be fully removed by changing the Gold value of most rarities. After this Thursday, there will be a direct correlation between Gold and EWC value that is consistent for all card rarities: 5 Gold to 1 EWC.
This quick comparison shows how the conversion ratio has changed with each update.
- Ratios started with a significant mismatch on release
- The first update moved ratios closer together
- This update makes all ratios equal
Another change: Legendaries will be less common
Buying Legendaries will now be much cheaper, but they’ll be available in the shop less often.
The EWC value change that happened in June made the Legendaries from the Daily Shop a great way to obtain EWCs easily, but the Daily Shop isn’t intended to be the main source of EWCs. Given that conversion values are now fixed for consistency, the only way left to reduce this source of EWCs is for these Legendaries to be available less often.
What about buying EWCs directly?
Until now, players could buy 5,000 EWCs for 150,000 Gold every few days. While this offer didn’t have the best efficiency for your Gold, it was a convenient way to spend it quickly if you had too much.
After the new conversion changes, obtaining EWCs will cost less Gold, so this offer is also becoming cheaper: 100,000 Gold instead of 150,000.
This means that will be better than before, but significantly worse than spending Gold on cards. Based on this, it will only make sense to buy this offer if you see your Gold building up towards the 5M limit, or if you are in a hurry to get EWCs despite the worse value.
What are the main consequences?
- You’ll now be able to buy all cards in the Daily Shop and know that you’ll always get the same value, regardless of the rarity... unless you buy cards with Gems, don’t!
- You’ll be able to buy EWCs more efficiently from now on, because Gold prices are reduced for everything except commons.
- You’ll be able to get less EWCs from the Daily Shop due to the Legendary reduction. If you had plenty of Gold and you weren’t worried about spending it efficiently, this will slow down the rate at which you earn EWCs.
New Efficiency Tier List
Trading cards that you have at level 14 will be the best option, as before. Remember that the only way to earn trade tokens at the moment is in Global Tournaments.
Daily Shop cards offer half the value (50% efficiency), because shop prices are always double of card values.
Lastly, the offer priced at 100,000 Gold comes last with 25% efficiency.
Rarity Value Recap
Now that rarity values are going to be more consistent, it’s worth taking another look at them:
Rarity | Gold Value | Shop Price | EWC Value |
---|---|---|---|
Common | 5 | 10 | 1 |
Rare | 25 | 50 | 5 |
Epic | 100 | 200 | 20 |
Legendary | 7,500 | 15,000 | 1,500 |
Champion | 20,000 | - | 4,000 |
- 1 Rare = 5 Commons (was 10 before)
- 1 Epic = 20 Commons (was 100 before)
- 1 Legendary = 1,500 Commons (was 4,000 before)
