2v2 Ladder Leak
2v2 Ladder leaked in the update. We investigate and analyze it.
season leak updateRoyaleAPI only covers official content, and follows a schedule as all the official content creators... but today we are making an exception. We are publishing some leaks related to the 2024 Q3 update.
Table of Contents
The Leak
The breach occurred on October 2nd, with the release of the new update. Some documents that were meant to provide details for the new Pass Royale included confidential information that wasn't intended for the public.
These details included several media assets of what seems to be an upcoming feature for the game.
Supercell is still looking for those involved in this breach, and have allowed us to share these contents given that they are now publicly available for everyone.
Leaked Content
The leak consisted on 8 images paired with a string of text that said “2v2 LADDER???”.
Given the lack of context, our only option is to speculate about the meaning of these images. Our interpretations might be wrong, so don't treat this as our usual update content.
Game Mode Icon
The first leak is one of the most informative despite how simple it is: a game mode icon.
This would imply that 2v2 is becoming a separate mode within the home screen, similar to Trophy Road, Path of Legends of Goblin Queen's Journey.
Profile Section
There are other 2 images that seem to be part of the player profile UI, which also exists for the game modes we mentioned previously.
On top of that, this images show:
- The name of this new mode would be “Royals 2v2”.
- Arena progression.
- A new kind of trophy that would be specific for 2v2, next to the score of “1500”.
- A third slot for an unknown purpose. In Path of Legends, that value used for the global ranking when you reach the Top 10,000. In this case, this template doesn’t show the “#” before the “5900” value, so it could mean something else.
Profile Badges
The next 2 images seem to be profile badges, similar to the ones earned by finishing among the Top 1,000 players in Path of Legends or Global Tournaments.
Usually, having different badge tiers would reflect the amount of times you have completed this task, but that seems to be changing for Goblin Queen’s Journey. For this mode, the tiers simply show the highest arena you reached while the mode was active.
Based on this, there are two likely options:
- A recurring format in which you can compete for multiple seasons.
- A limited event where you’ll have to climb through arenas to earn the best badge tier.
Battle UI
Lastly, there are 3 images that resemble the battle log UI you see in clan chat.
The 3 images say:
- “Waiting for 2v2 Battle”: could mean the matchmaking process is started with clanmates.
- “2v2 Battle in Progress”: an active battle against other players that you can spectate live.
- “Friendly Battle Result”: a completed battle that you can replay.
It’s possible that playing with clanmates is the only way to compete in this mode, although including random matchmaking would make it friendlier for casual-leaning players.
You can expect the most advanced players to coordinate in voice chat and build decks that synergise well; but for the bulk of the playerbase, that‘s probably a hassle that they might not be willing to put up with.
Feedback
What do you think about all this information? Do you think we missed anything?
And most importantly, how do you think 2v2 Ladder should be implemented in Clash Royale? Do you have any concerns and ideas to handle matchmaking and scores?
